The Meaning of ELAH

The Meaning of ELAH

The Meaning of Elah to to affirm that “There is no ‘ELAH’ except ALLAH”. This is so important that in the absence of it one cannot gain the favor of ALLAH. The acquisition of eternal pleasure is impossible, so it is important to specify and know the meaning of ‘ELAH’.

After all, we must clearly know the truth which we affirm. It is not enough to say that ‘ELAH’ means the worshipped or the one who fulfills our needs.

Because so limited a meaning does not enable the common man to understand. That meaning upon which depends the welfare of this world and the world hereafter.

To know that meaning which irritates the human beings and fall upon him who preaches it and spare no effort. To suppress his voice and makes his life cumbersome upon him. We shall have to turn to the Holy Book of that being who is really ‘ELAH’.

The Holy Qur’an is wholly for the clarification of that meaning i.e., The Meaning of Elah. We may, for example, take a few verses of Surah Naml! After few verses of this Sura ALLAH asks, is there any other ‘ELAH’ except the One.

Who has created the heavens and the earth, and who sends you down rain from the sky? Yea, with it We cause to grow well-planted orchards full of beauty and delight, it is not in your power to cause the growth of the trees in them. (can there be another) ‘ELAH’ besides ALLAH? Nay, they are a people who swerve from justice.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Naml-60)

In this verse, ALLAH Almighty indicates how he created the earth and the sky. It also explains how he caused rain and grows gardens of fruit and fertile corn-fields.

Then he asks, is there anyone who shares Him in these activities?

If the answer is no. Then you must know that there is no ‘ELAH’ except ALLAH. Clearly this is The Meaning of Elah, Who has the ability to do so.

Or, who has made the earth firm to live in; made rivers in its midst; set thereon mountains immovable; and made a separating bar between the two seas (can there be another) ‘ELAH’ besides ALLAH? Nay,, most of them know not.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Naml-61)

Who Relieves The Sufferings

This verse draws our attention to some of the other wonderful works of ‘ELAH’. The verse also proves that none shares Him in its performance, which is The Meaning of Elah.

Therefore, He does it all alone and is doing it right now. It is rather a continuous process without succession running the entire lot.

That is why He persistently asks is there any other partner who shares these activities?

Or, who listens to the distressed when he calls on Him, and Who relieves his suffering, and makes you (mankind) inheritors of the earth? (can there be another) ‘ELAH’ besides ALLAH? Little it is that you heed!

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Naml-62)
La Elha ElAllah, The Meaning of Elah
La Elha ElAllah, The Meaning of Elah

When You Are Disappointed:

So long as, man is not helpless, he expects others to help him. He deludes himself by believing that others may help him.

But ALLAH Almighty create such causes as to relieve him of his troubles. He believes that other have removed his troubles. That is why, ALLAH Almighty expresses the state of helplessness in this verse.

When you are disappointed and understand that there is none to help you. Whom do you call for help? Who help you at that time, and who create such conditions from the world unknown which are beyond your imagination?

If your reply is that ALLAH creates such conditions. Then why are under the delusion in usual circumstances that others help you.

If causes are necessary for something. The creator of the causes is ALLAH, Who provides you with necessary causes for the fulfillment of your purpose.

To call anyone else the creator of the cause is to seek the partner of ALLAH which is great sin.

The difference between the faithful – who believes in one ALLAH. And the non-believers, who seeks partner for Him. The approach of the non-believers is limited to the causes and he involves himself in these causes.

But to the true believers appears the creator of the causes behind them (the causes).

He knows that there is no other ‘ELAH’ except ALLAH, this is The Meaning of Elah.

His creature cannot do anything except His help. All their activities are due to His blessing.

Or, who guides you through the depths of darkness on land and sea, and who sends the winds as heralds of glad tiding, going before His mercy? (can there be another) ‘ELAH’ besides ALLAH? High is ALLAH above what they associate with Him!

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Naml-63)

The Originator and Creator

So, it is evident that there is no ‘ELAH’ to guide you whether on land or on sea except ALLAH. It is the only ‘ELAH’ who guides you consistently and gives you wisdom to know and judge.

He blows the wind for your sake and bestows His blessing on you.

Those who believe in other things are not among those who believe in the existence of only one ‘ELAH’.

ALLAH Almighty is above all kinds of polytheism and is absolutely free from such blasphemous creeds and doctrines.

Or, who originates creation, then repeats it, and who gives you sustenance from heaven and earth? (can there be another) ‘ELAH’ besides  ALLAH? Say, “Bring forth your argument, if you are telling the truth.”

Say: None in the heavens or on earth, except ALLAH, knows what is hidden, nor can they perceive when they shall be raised up (for judgment) Nay, but their knowledge fails as to the hereafter, they are in doubt concerning it. Nay, for they cannot see it.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (An-Naml-64-66)

Say: “Think you, if ALLAH took away hearing and your sight, and sealed up your hearts. Who-an ‘ELAH’ other than ALLAH could restore them to you?” See how we explain the signs by various (symbols); yet they turn aside.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-An’am-46)

Hearing Seeing (Sight) Belongs to One “ELAH”

It is clear from this verse and many other verses that hearing, seeing (sight) and thinking belongs to One ‘ELAH’.

Allah only (i.e., these are the attributes of ALLAH).

Be considerate! We avail all these attributes as long as ALLAH wills.

(i.e. ourselves are in contact with soul (Rooh) (Note: Please refer to body, self and Rooh)

And He is ALLAH! There is no ‘ELAH’ but He. To Him be praise, at the first and at the last; for Him is the command, and to Him shall you (all) be brought back.

Say: See you? If ALLAH were to make the night perpetual over you to the Day of Judgment, what ‘ELAH’ is there other than ALLAH, who can give a night in which you can rest? Will you not then see? It is out of His mercy that He has made for you night and day, that you may rest therein, and that you may seek of His Grace, and in order that you may be grateful.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Qasas-70-73)

Nay, who is there that can help you, (even as) an army, besides the Rehman? In nothing but delusion are the unbelievers. Or who is there that can provide you with sustenance if He were to withhold His provision. Nay, they obstinately persist in insolent impiety and flight (from the truth).

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Mulk-20-21)

Say: See you? If ALLAH were to destroy me, and those with me, or if He bestows his mercy on us, yet who can deliver unbelievers from a grievous chastisement

Say: “He is the Rehman; We have believed in Him, and on Him have we put our trust; so, soon will you know which (of us) it is that is in manifest error.”

Say: “See you? If your stream be some morning lost (in the underground earth), who then can supply you with clear-flowing water?”

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Mulk-28-30)

Do you then see? The (human seed) that you emit, is it you who create it, or are We the Creators?

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Waqu’a-58-59)

See you the seed that you sow in the ground?

Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the cause?

Were it Our will, We could make it broken chaff. And you would be left in wonderment. (Saying), “We are indeed left with debts (for nothing); “Indeed we are deprived.”

See you the water which you drink? Do you bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? Were it Our Will, We could make it saltish (and unpalatable): then why do you not give thanks?

See you the fire which you kindle? Is it you who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Waqu’a-63-72)

See you not how ALLAH has created the seven heavens one above another. And made the moon a light in their midst, and the sun as a (Glorious) lamp?

And ALLAH has produced you from the earth, growing (gradually), And in the end He will return you into the (earth), and raise you forth (again at the resurrection)? And ALLAH has made the earth for you as a carpet (spread out). That you may go about therein, in spacious roads.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Nuh-15-20)

Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable? Which We laid up in a safe abode. For a period (of gestation) determined.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Mursalat-20-22)

Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together. The living and the dead. And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome).

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Mursalat-25-27)

Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? And a tongue, and a pair of lips? And shown him the two highways.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Balad-8-10)

(As to those) before them, not one of the towns which We destroyed believed: will these believe? Before you, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration; if you know this not, ask of those who possess the message.

Nor die We give them bodies that ate no food, nor were they immortals. Then We fulfilled to them Our promise, and We saved them and those whom We willed but We destroyed those who transgressed beyond bounds. We have revealed for you (O men!) a Book which will give you eminence. Will you not then understand? How many were the towns, We utterly destroyed because of their iniquities, setting up in their places other peoples?

Yet, when they felt Our punishment (coming), Behold, they (tried to) flee from it. Flee not, but return to the good things of this life which were given you, and to your homes, in order that you may be called to account.

They said: “Ah! Woe to us! We were indeed wrong doers!”

And that cry of theirs ceased not, till We made them as a field that is mown, as ashes silent and quenched. Not for (idle) sport did We create the heavens and the earth and all that is between!

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Anbiyaa-6-16)

Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves the Creators? Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, they have no firm belief.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (At-Tur-35-36)

Allah is One Who Has The Ability of Do Work

It is clear form the verses and such type of other verses that ‘ELAH’ is One. Allah Who has the ability to do work, or you may use the word “CAPABILITY” for it too. It is at the disposal of ALLAH.

One must keep into consideration that we are not capable of doing any work at all. Though our daily observation is contradicting it.

It is because of the lack of understanding on our part. Be sure, it is never beyond the scope or realm of understanding, if one tries his best to know it.

The source is, of course, without any doubt is the Holy Qur’an.

A dead body (natural death on one’s own bed) is in possession of all physical parts. But is completely motionless, never senseless or unconscious.

We may say, it is because of deprivation of soul (Rooh) – the Command of ALLAH. One of the attributes of ‘ELAH’). Who so kindly bestowing it upon us through soul (Rooh) consistently (without succession). That We take it as an attribute of ourselves. Which is now evident at the point of death, the state the dead body is unable to express.

At the most We say that all such activities are due to “ENERGY” – the term taken for granted. Its scientific definition is not capable enough to bring the actual fact to light. So, from the above explanation,

We Arrived at a Conclusion That:

We arrived at a conclusion that One Who possess the “ENERGY” is ‘ELAH’. And the meaning of (There is no ‘ELAH’ save ALLAH) is that apart from ALLAH. No one has the ability or capability to do work.

O men! Here is a parable set forth! Listen to it! Those on whom, besides ALLAH, you call, cannot create (even) a fly, if they all met together for the purpose! And if the fly should snatch away anything from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. So weak are (both) the seeker and sought. They do not have right estimate of ALLAH, for ALLAH is powerful and Mighty.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Hajj-73-74)

Today, all the great scientists of the world have come to conclusion after great research, knowledge and strenuous attempts. Finally concluded that change and motion are due to energy.

Energy is the driving force behind laws of the universe. Light, heat, sound, electricity, electromagnetic waves are the various manifestation of the energy.

This is an eternal law of the universe; which is not subjected to any change. The scientists call it the Law of Conservation of Energy. The scientists call it a law, but in fact it is not a law. Which ALLAH has imposed upon the world, it is rather the Habit of ALLAH which pervades the whole universe.

We are actually not studying the eternal laws of ALLAH. Which He imposed upon the world, but in fact witness what ALLAH does.

Allah is Who Does Not Change His Habits

ALLAH, the Almighty, has not changed His habits for the sake of His creature’s facility.

(Such has been) the Habit (Practice) of ALLAH already in the past; no change will you find in the Habit of ALLAH.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Fath-23)

No change will you find in the Habits of ALLAH.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Bani-Israel-17)

Law and habit are two distinct things. It is possible that drinking is ban; in a country; but the king is addicted to drinking. So, it is his habit to drink. But the law of the prohibition of drinking is something quite separate from his person. Hence habits are a part of a person’s inherent characteristics.

He cannot go against them, but he can obey or disobey law when he wants. If ALLAH had imposed laws, His need would have been superfluous. His personal relation to His creature would have been needless.

The universe would function according to those laws and his creature’s urge to have recourse to Him. And pray to Him for the relief of their trial and tribulation would then, be a useless exercise.

But it is not so, ALLAH Himself is even now managing the affairs of the world.

But in the presence of absolute and incontrovertible laws it would have been impossible to approach Him for help. It would have been enough to understand those laws which rule the world.

The existence and non-existence of ALLAH would have been the same for His creature.

The series of the succeeding Prophets merely to make mankind understand the laws of Nature.

The foremost in faith would have been greater in number in this advanced period of twenty-first century. But the Holy Qur’an speaks against it.

And those foremost (in faith) will be foremost (in the hereafter). These will be those nearest to ALLAH.

In Gardens of Bliss. A-number-of people from those of old, And a

few from those of later times.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Waqu’a-10-14)

Knowledge of the Prophets, Messengers & Highly Pious Men:

The entire Prophet, Messengers and the highly pious men had no knowledge of the laws of Nature. Which the scientists of the modern age have made us acquainted.

But they possessed the knowledge of the universe, because they were aware of the Habits of ALLAH Almighty.

If angels had to bow before man because the knowledge of the universe was bestowed upon him. And the high status of man be supposed to be due to his ability to know the properties of matter. And use them in the interest of mankind.

Then the angels should have bowed before the limited number of the scientists. Scientists of America, Russia, China, Germany, France and U.K.. Because they deserved it most.

Then all Prophets including the last of Prophets Muhammad would have to be included among those who have not attained the high position of man.

Because he did not know whether the pruning of the branches would yield useful results or not. And was heard to say, “All these worldly affairs you know better than me.”

This controversial sentence was deemed necessary to be written because it is the most important need of the present age.

The Law of Conversation of Energy

Coming to the point: Law of Conservation of Energy is expressed in the following words:

“Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy gets transformed from one form into another without loss.”

Energy, being universally constant, can neither be created nor destroyed.

It gets transformed from one form into another. In such a way that its total amount always remains the same or constant.

Energy cannot be created means that it was eternally existing. And we cannot imagine its non-existence (i.e. Energy – the ability to do work) is an eternal reality.

Similarly, its non-destruction means that it could not be vanished away.

It will be there, remaining constant, even if this material world is annihilated completely. We cannot imagine of a time when there will be no energy i.e., it is everlasting.

Keeping into consideration such a unique reality, this state of attributes cannot be assigned to anything created or perishable. Nothing is eternal except ALLAH and His attributes.

All that is on earth will perish; But will abide (forever) the Face of your ‘Rabb’ full of Majesty, Bounty and Honor.

Verses From the Holy Qur’an (Al-Rehman-26-27)

Allah’s Force (One of His Attributes):

It clearly implies that all things are ultimately subject to annihilation except ALLAH’s Face (One of His Attributes.) Consequently, if energy is an eternal reality, then it must be one of the manifestations of the Attributes of ALLAH. At this critical junction, one may ask a question, what does energy mean to us?

In reply the scientists of today at the most can say that it seems impossible to define it instantly. We used to say, the functioning body has energy, while the one without it, is deprived of function too.

Thus, performance of work is undoubtedly on account of energy. As for definition, we do expect the coming scientists to coin it. To enable a body to do work is a part of energy’s role. Its creation is also due to it (energy), because matter is also a form of energy. So the existence of body depends on energy and it enables it to do work.

Hence, according to the scientists, the same amount of energy was there before creation, as is available now. The existence of universe is due to it. Moreover, all the evident and hidden, inward and outward system of the universe depends on it too.

By hidden or inward things, the scientists means invisible objects i.e. photon or radioactive rays, etc.

Since energy is the ability to do work. It was there before the creation, is at work now and will remain so infinitely.

The Creation of Matter:

The creation of the matter and all sorts of minutest, fastest, evident or hidden changes. Movements or motion are also due to it.

The riddle, the scientists of today are faced with and their expectation from the coming generation. Seems to be futile one. Because, even the first created human being, Adam knew what energy is.

To him, it is not the property of an inanimate, un-logical and dead nature. But is the Attribute of Self-subsisting, Living, Eternal, Knower and Aware ‘ELAH’.

He (Adam) knew for certain that ‘ELAH’ was at work even before the creation of the universe. And the creation of the universe is a very small manifestation of His Attributes.

He executes all sorts of activities and our observation is nothing but to see Him at work.

Rest and motion, change and movement are due to energy at the disposal of ELAH’. And we, no doubt, avail it every instant (of course before death). But it is not a property or quality of us.

The entire system of the universe is at work (without succession) due to His Attributes. At the moment, if it is me to write, then it is a continuous addition to energy, which is impossible.

Energy the Attribute of Allah:

Therefore, the energy with which writing is being done is not mine.

Energy is an attribute; therefore, it stands in need of an object. Who has the ability to do work is called ‘ELAH’. In the terminology of the Holy Qur’an and (There is no ‘ELAH’ save ALLAH). This means that apart from Him (ALLAH) no one has the ability to do work.

Allah Almighty Was Even Before the Creation:

ALLAH Almighty, as an ‘ELAH’, was there even before the creation of the universe. But He did not exercise His Energy i.e. He did not intend to do work.

When He intended all the visible and invisible creation came into being. Which is coming into being without succession even now.

It is said about the Holy Prophet Muhammad or possibly it may be the utterance of some other pious person. That “ALLAH was a hidden treasure,

He wished (Wished does not mean that there is any succession in its performance or coming into being. His Wish is simultaneous with its materialization, coming into being or taking place without even a fraction of a micro-second.

His wish or command is “Be” and it is.) to introduce Himself, So, He created the universe.

In other words, His wish for creation turned the energy in potential into dynamic. (i.e., energy came into motion). And the ability to do work appeared in the form of work. The universe and various forms of changes taking place in it is “To observe ‘ELAH’ at work.”

It leads us to the recognition of the rest of the attributes of ALLAH. That He is Alive, Eternal, Originator, Wise, Knower, Hearer and Seer, etc.
